One thing that all my students have in common is their love of music. Music allows my students to express themselves, communicate their feelings and emotions, and deal with their personal struggles or problems.
Art and music seems to be nonexistent in some public schools, and as a teacher, I feel that it is as vital as ELA or Math. Music and Art can help motivate my students, improve their attendance and attitudes (especially 6th graders), and benefit overall academic performance.
My students will learn techniques for playing the ukulele, including strumming, fingering, reading chord charts, and learning to play together as an ensemble. This grant will allow my students to play a musical instrument who otherwise could not afford to buy one.
