My classroom is in a high poverty area. Most of the students at our school qualify for free or reduced lunch. I see my students wanting to succeed but the odds are stacked against them. They have limited opportunities for exposure to technology, the arts, performances, museums and other enrichment activities because their families can't afford it. I feel very passionate about giving them equal opportunities for access to education. Part of my job is to find ways to foster and develop a love for learning that will uplift them throughout their lives. As a teacher with almost fifteen years of experience under my belt, I have learned that students in undeserved populations need many interventions. But above all, they need to fall in love with learning during their primary years. That is why I feel the urgency to find ways to enrich my classroom and fulfill my student's needs.
