The days of teaching old tired novels are over. In order to capture the interest of tech driven kids, we have to up the ante. Funding for individual novel classroom sets is not an option in our district. If our English Department had a set of Kindle Readers we could download book titles that would peak the interest of our current student population. By interweaving the classics with popular new titles, we can grab the imagination of our students and expose them to different genres of literature.
This may be the only escape some of our students have from the harsh reality of what has become their life. We strive to be sure our students are prepared for whatever their future holds after high school. If it be College, Technical School, Military, or Manufacturing, we want our students to be able to succeed in both verbal and written situations in which they may find themselves.
