I have the most incredible job because I get to guide America's future, but also impact the lives of some of the most vulnerable people in society. My students come from poverty and trauma centered communities. We are one of the highest crime areas in California. Many of my students struggle with housing, clothes, food and supplies. I grew up in this community so I know their struggle all too well.
My students are so deserving and have the kindest hearts. My goal is to not to satiate their academic hunger, but to expand it. I want my students to know that learning is the foundation of life. They can direct their own trajectories. I want them to understand the power they possess to control their future and go forth to transform the communities that helped form who they are. I know that several teachers helped me to understand and I am here doing the work to guide other children in that realization today.
