Most of the books in our classroom are about 20 years old. Not only are pages falling out and the glue on the bindings coming undone, but the books are way outdated. Reading is the main part of our day. We spend a lot of time repairing ripped books or taping covers back on. The students want to read current popular books. They want the latest titles that all their friends are talking about. Instead they are reading 20 year old titles and torn books. It is extremely embarrassing to send these books home.
If we are lucky enough to receive these new books, we will be able to read what other students in other schools are reading. It will make all the difference in the world. We are in a district that constantly has severe budget cuts every year and rarely do we get a chance to buy new books for our rooms. Our supply room is barren and our book room is full of dust covered bags of old books. This will change the energy in our classroom, and the students will be excited to read each day. We will be so happy!!
