Our school has recently adopted a new reading series that requires students to read more informational texts. The informational texts provided through this reading series is very disengaging and irrelevant to students. Their experiences, cultures, and interests are not reflected through the content that they are required to read. Therefore, for some students, informational texts are not appealing to their different learning styles and needs.
In order to provide my students with meaningful and engaging informational texts, with your kind donation, I would like to provide each of my twenty-eight students with a year-long subscription to TIME For Kids magazine. TIME For Kids will give students the opportunity to read and relate to content that is current and age appropriate. This will not only allow my students to understand and read about the world around them, but it will also give me a better opportunity to teach them reading comprehension skills, annotation, and analyzing graphs and visuals. While these skills are important for third grade students to learn, these skills will also help them be prepared for state testing at the end of the school year and throughout their lives.
