The benefits of Performing Arts are vast. Students in Performing Arts classes outscore non-art students on the SAT by an average of 65 points! In particular, Theatre Arts students have better reading comprehension skills, verbal and non-verbal communication skills. Attendance and drop-out rates are lower for these students. Overall academic performance is greatly improved with involvement in the Performing Arts.
Seeing live theatre is an experience to learn from and my students deserve to see the best! We will first see some sights of San Francisco, learning about the history of the theatre district, Mission District and Embarcadero. For many, this will be the first time they have been out of Fresno, CA. It will also be the first time they see a professional theatre production. I know it will inspire them to be their very best in our play productions, in my class and in ALL their classes! Learning theatre technique and craft is a life-long process but one than transcends the stage. All the skills and training I teach are utilized in their everyday lives. We learn how to listen, to connect, to feel, to empathize, to express and frankly, how to love. We learn to create full characters that then connect to our audience...to enrich their lives too. Theatre has the power to connect us all and in these trying times, it is what we all need.
