Most of my students learn by doing, creating and visualizing. Having hands-on math manipulatives, like base ten blocks, cubes, tangrams, and dice in the classroom will help students learn mathematical concepts. Most children learn better when they use manipulatives as they are designed to help children think about math concretely. Children need to see given mathematical concepts represented in a number of different ways to create a truly lasting impression.
This project will help my students learn critical thinking skills and problem solving through the use of manipulatives.
When students manipulate objects, they take the first steps toward understanding math processes and procedures. All of these manipulatives promote critical thinking and problem-solving skills that are key elements to creating successful students.
