I teach first grade in a small Oklahoma elementary school. This year I have 25 bright and inquisitive students.
Many of the students' parents, grandparents and even great-grandparents attended our school. Our community was originally founded on the coal industry and farming. Currently we are one of the most impoverished counties in our state. We also have an influx of new students to the district and most of their families are on public assistance of some sort. My class is ethnically diverse.
We are currently using my personal devices because the district does not have funding for technology. I believe technology can help my students in reading and in math. Many of my students have need of remediation that technology can provide.
