My regular 1st grade class "walks-to-read & write" with the full inclusion 1st grade class right next door to us. We have children of all needs & abilities. Some of our students need more hands-on activities to help with their "sensory diet". While others need to be pushed further along with enrichment activities. They come from some of the lowest socioeconomic backgrounds in our state. They are so appreciative of everything that is done for them. They get excited whenever it is time for writing just because of the basic colored pencils we use right now! They truly enjoy learning and thanks to Dr. Horn, writing has become a passion for them. These supplies would give them such an incredible opportunity to open up and expand their creativity and to push their passion for writing even further. Writing has always fallen below in our district with any of our standardized testing. Giving our first graders such a strong foundation for telling their stories will change that for all of us.
