I have the joy of teaching kindergarteners! They are hilarious, kind, and incredibly good at learning. Our school has a high refugee population, and of my 22 students only 4 are native English speakers/monolingual. Our classroom languages include Spanish, Swahili, and Nepali. This makes our classroom wonderful and diverse, but also can make it hard and overwhelming for the students to learn.
I am very passionate about our classroom community, and I am proud of my students every day for the way they look out for each other, encourage each other, and respect each other.
We recite our classroom motto every morning: "We are all growing, we are all different, we are all important, and we are all loved."
We are a full day kindergarten, which in Utah means that most of the students are required to be "high risk," or significantly below their expected academic level. These kids are disadvantaged, but are very hard workers.
