My students are filled with the energy and spirit that makes for amazing lifelong learners. I have a student-centered ideology that celebrates all learning styles. For many students, sitting at a desk all day is a challenge. Seating options are limited in our classroom, which impacts student engagement and comfort. With flexible seating, students will be allowed options.
Unfortunately, we do not have a rug in our classroom. It is hard to build a community and come together as a group without a centralized meeting place. Students are forced to sit on the hard floor or pull a chair over. Engaging students from their desks can be a challenge. A classroom rug would serve as a spot for us to have our daily morning meetings and closing circles. The rug would also be a great spot for independent reading (a fourth grade favorite) and partner work.
