We are a Spanish dual-language classroom. This means that half of my students come from English speaking families while the second half of the class comes from Spanish speaking families. In the classroom, we speak both languages. Half of the day is devoted to instruction in English while the other half is devoted instruction in Spanish.
Not only do Spanish speaking students work in an environment where the home language is maintained, many English students are also given this wonderful opportunity to be immersed in another powerful language.
The school is considered Title 1 and is found is an relatively low-income neighborhood.
While these statistics are theoretically nice, one thing is for sure, we are bilingual and proud!
