I teach kindergarten in Aztec, New Mexico to students that have a love for learning. In my classroom I promote positive learning and behavior through incentives. In my classroom we use a program called Classroom DOJO. It is a program that allows me to easily connect with parents through a messaging system and to be able to post pictures and updates of what is happening in our classroom. Also on DOJO, students have an opportunity to earn positive behavior points. In kindergarten there needs to be a purpose for earning points. If there is no purpose, they began to not care about positive behavior.
In kindergarten it is very important that the students have positive incentives that they can see and touch because this then makes the incentive more meaningful to them and they then want to continue learning and have positive behavior. What I am going to do with these incentive items is create a positive behavior and learning store within my classroom. The points the students earn from DOJO will get exchanged for money so the students can go to the store and spend the money that they earned. During this process students will also be learning about the exchange of money for items; they will then have a better understanding of what money is and how it is used.
This store would have a big impact in my classroom because it will give students something to look forward to for all their hard work. It will making learning and positive behavior more meaningful and fun because students can see when they are doing these things what they get in return.
