My students live in a neighborhood of extremely hard working families who face many difficult challenges. Many of the families are new to the country so they need to adapt not only to new living standards but also the difficulty of learning a new language.
I am an ENL freestanding kindergarten teacher and my students live in a low income urban area. Many of my students attend after school programs for many hours while their parents work long hours. Our classroom plays a large role in their daily lives, from enriching their learning experience to making lifelong friendships.
