The materials for our reading area will help create a more inviting learning environment so that the children will be eager to visit this center. Piaget believes that all children learn through active exploration of their environment. When the environment is favorable there are more opportunities for children to learn through their daily play. Puppets, a cd player, and cozy seating will offer more opportunities for the students to engage in retelling the stories in books or just listening to stories being told. The baskets will give the children a place to independently organize and store their books and materials in this center as well as other centers. When the children are independent in their play they are able to use higher level language skills. The hollow blocks will stimulate their creativity and imagination while playing in the block area. The above materials express to the children that we value their work and want to provide them with a safe learning environment.
Reading develops your brain, provides a window into the world around you and helps you do better in all school subjects.
Every day the children are given time to learn through playing. During this time the children use their language, problem solving, math, literacy and creative arts to express their thoughts and ideas.
