Each one of my second grade students is a unique learner with individual strengths and needs. As such, reading instruction is a crucial part of my daily instruction. It ensures that my students get the help they need at their own particular level in order to advance successfully as readers.
Furthermore, because of its open-ended nature, reading instruction is a wonderful opportunity to teach students important science concepts. This can be done through the stories they read and activities they engage in while in a small group with their teacher.
My hope is to have sets of NGSS-aligned readers so that each one of my students will have the opportunity to bloom as both readers and as scientists! The materials I am requesting would reach all of my readers, from the emergent to the experienced, in a variety of different fields of science. They will also serve as a perfect compliment to the hands-on science kits in my classroom.
I am also requesting online access to BrainPop Jr., which will broaden my student's understanding of the science concepts and keep them engaged! In addition to that, I am asking for a seed kit, real insect examples, and anchor charts that will also compliment my existing science program.
