My students are little bookworms and absolutely love to read! Many of my students cannot afford to purchase books on their own, and in our small community resources are not always available for them. Some of our families do not have access to the public library or transportation of their own to get there. The only way that many of our students access books is here at school. Each year, I have my students create a list of what they would like to learn about. Many times books about these topics do not exist in our school library. As we are a K-8 school, our library has to serve a wide range of students and funds are stretched to reach those different levels. I try my best to keep a variety of books here in my classroom, but as I have to pay for these out of my own pocket it becomes expensive. I want my students to be able to have access to many different literary and informational texts and read as their heart desires. My students deserve the best education possible and the ability to read as much as they can!
