Because of a lack of reading resources at home, many of my students are not avid readers. It is important to attempt to create a lifelong reader by having a fabulous library in my class.
Students need access to high-interest books that are both fiction and nonfiction and are on their guided reading level. I have chosen the "Diary of a Wimpy Kid," series, "Who Was" Nonfiction Set, and "Kids of the Polk Street School" series because students can relate to the books and are drawn to them. By adding these books to my library, students will be able to check out books to their leveled book bins that are considered fluency books, on-level books, and dessert books. I hope that adding these books to my empty shelves will help my students increase their reading levels and love of reading.
