All students are capable of achieving success in the English classroom. Yet, it is a daunting subject for many students. In my school, many of my students are reading below grade level. This makes reading even more intimidating. For these reasons, I need to teach a full class drama to help my students better explore this dynamic style of literature. The Crucible is a story that carries plot lines all to familiar to high school students--it is a tale of accusations, rumors, emotional and social frenzy, forgiveness, and moral growth. This drama is engaging for students while allowing them to truly understand and make powerful connections between the historical contexts, like the Salem Witch Trial and McCarthyism, and modern day. The text is challenging and advanced, yet the language is more approachable for students. Our school is limited in funds for purchasing books and extra supplies like schools throughout the nation. However, my students are more than worth the price of these books. Together, in our classroom, we will learn and grow as English students expanding our content in areas of history and political ideology. With your contribution, you will be empowering English students to study and find value in the English language. Thank you for your support in educating America's youth.
