No matter what subject is being taught, students must be engaged in order to learn. Current research continues to support the importance of using many different aspects of our brains as we learn. Movement is a key part of this and can help to improve comprehension and retention of what is taught.
Physical movement is an important aspect of learning for all students but is especially so, for my students with special needs. Wobble chairs are an alternative seating option designed to help improve focus and learning. Even though my teaching style involves physical activity during lessons, many of my students need additional opportunities to move while learning. Their movement, however, cannot be a distraction to themselves or others. Wobble chairs meet this need. I have observed great success with wobble chairs in other classrooms and would love to have the opportunity to provide this resource for my students.
