Technology is an essential part of education in the twenty-first century. My third graders have just finished learning how to type and are now ready to take on the technological world to help scaffold and accelerate their learning.
Using Chromebooks is a daily part of my students routine. In order for this technology to be more effective a 1:2 Chromebook ratio would allow every student the opportunity to use technology to assist with writing, reading, science, social studies, and math.
Chromebooks would specifically allow my autistic student many more differentiated options to meet her specific needs, such as using speech to text to write.
Chromebooks would also allow all of my students to type their writing projects, listen to and read books online, research science and social studies topics, use online math manipulatives, and so much more.
The opportunities in teaching are endless when we have technology. That being said, I do not believe that technology replaces good teaching. As George Courous said, "Technology will never replace great teachers, but technology in the hands of great teachers is transformational."
