I work in an economically disadvantaged school. My babies come from homes where neccessities are lacking and resources for "extras" are not an option. It's no wonder my content is irrelevant. I aspire each year to motivate the complacent. To inspire the apathetic. And to love the unloved and "unlovable". My passion can only do so much, though. I am seeking help in connecting my students to high interest relevant material to grab and ignite the fire of passion within them. High interest books and tablets are what I am looking to be donated. Currently, classroom technology is very limited, at 1 laptop per every 5 students. With additional access to wireless sources via tablets, my students will be able to work on collaborative pairs to explore my content and the plethora of sources available on the internet. Additionally, with the novels and other texts selected, I will be able to hook them on reading. My classroom library is humble and eclectic, yet lacks high interest materials. With the texts provided, I will be able to snag their attention during our weekly round circle reading discussion by reading end discussing plot-introductions in these books, then allowing them to "check it out." Please help connect my kids with the world of literature. In great appreciation, Mrs. V.
