Our students will highly benefit from flexible seating as it will promote their ability to not only focus on tasks but also to understand how they can best learn as individuals. They will be able to choose spots they feel best allow them to engage in learning and produce work. As can be read in an article from Matthew T Mahar, et al, he states: "Studies suggest that children who participate in short bouts of physical activity within the classroom have more on-task behavior, with the best improvement seen in students who are least on-task initially." These wobble stools and flexible seats can do just that for our students.
I am so excited to see my students utilize new work spots that will allow them to experience their full potential as learners and as members of their own classroom! By allowing them to choose their own spots, I am thrilled to see them take ownership of their learning.
If you ever drop in and see our class, don't be shocked if you see children sitting under desks or laying on the floor-- we are busy turning messes into memories and figuring out how we can take ownership of our learning! We are excited to "ditch the desks" and appreciate your consideration in helping us do so.
