Flexible seating has been proven to be an effective tool to improve focus and success for our students. Goodbye to the days of uncomfortable metal chairs and desks lined up in rows with no room for change. With flexible seating, not only do we as teachers provide a comfortable learning environment for our students, we promote collaboration and allow our students to reach their full potential by meeting all of their learning needs.
Flexible seating creates a better learning environment because it allows you to learn in an area where each individual feels comfortable. As Jordan states, 鈥淚 love the way our classroom is set up. I feel like I learn better sitting on the carpet with pillows because I am more comfortable and relaxed鈥 (fifth grade student).
In order to make our vision of a flexible classroom a reality, we are requesting a larger variety of furniture and places for our students to work comfortably and get their creativity flowing. Items on our list include a futon which would benefit students by providing comfort and a place to relax while they get their work done. We also have a high top table on our list to serve as a standing desk for students who like to 鈥渢hink on their feet鈥. In addition to promoting better posture, standing desks limit distraction and help our students stay involved and engaged. In addition to the futon and the high top table, we are also requesting a Zenergy ball chair which will also help students maintain focus and attention by allowing movement while sitting. The more flexible seating options we have for our students, the more collaborative thinking and learning can take place!
