Due to my student's challenges, they struggle immensely with staying attentive and engaged. Each and every one of my students is motivated by the educational use of technology. However, my school is unable to fund the use of interactive technology for each of my students in our classroom. With an interactive whiteboard, the students will be held accountable for their own learning. This technology will assist them in staying engaged, due to the fact they will have to remain active throughout each lesson. Instead of students having to remain stationary, they will each have to get out of their seats to use the whiteboard to answer questions by dragging and dropping visuals into the correct boxes, for example. Interactive whiteboards have been proven to increase student engagement and enhance learning.
With all of my students being kinesthetic and visual learners, I truly believe that this piece of technology will allow my students to thrive! Students with specialized needs are often held to standards that are easily met. However, I believe that each and every child deserves to be pushed and challenged to heights far beyond what is "expected" of them. As George Evans once said, "Every student can learn, just not on the same day, or in the same way."
For those of you who are unfamiliar with interactive whiteboard technology, I have included a video to watch below:
