All 9th grade students enter high school with common fears and concerns. What experiences will the new year and a new school hold for them? What classes will they take? Will they make new friends? Will they fit in? Even as adults, we have all had similar feelings when starting a new job, moving to a new city or meeting new people.
The Outsiders is the perfect story to help walk my students through the transition and challenges this phase of their life journey brings to their lives. After researching and compiling a custom made list of group activities and projects, my students are offered opportunities to share their concerns in a safe, non-judgmental atmosphere. Students respond positively and see that others deal with the same issues.
