The art center is one important part of my classroom. Art gives my students the opportunity to be creative and express themselves. This is important to my students' self esteem and confidence. My students feel good about themselves when they complete a piece of art work. When students are finished, we need a safe spot to put their artwork so that it can dry. K4 students are very tempted to touch wet paint and art work that is not theirs. The drying rack reduces this temptation. The spill proof paint containers allows students to be independent while creating whatever their hearts desire. We also need different art material so that they can be creative. The rolling sponges allows another technique that they can use.
Art can improve a child's language skills. This allows the chance for a discussion that provides students with plenty of opportunities to use descriptive language. Painting also improves students' fine motor skills simply by putting a paint brush in their hands. Lakeshore Learning has the perfect size paint brushes designed for their little hands. Lastly paint aprons are important so that my students can be creative and not worry about ruining their nice school clothes.
