We start our day with a morning meeting, gathered on a small oval rug. Its the most important time because the children are able to share personal experiences and express their emotions in a safe space but, more often than not, elbows and knees get in the way. It is here where we do the bulk of our learning. Stories are told here and memories are shared. We dance and we sing. Its is our view of the world through our interactive whiteboard. Google Earth and our magic carpet mean everything. Yoga helps us find our center, but we only have room for tree pose. In a classroom community were everything is shared, children need to have sacred space too. So much time is spent on our fadded, stained, and too small rug. Each child deserves to have his own space to learn and grow.
The children are anxiously awaiting a new rug to call home.
The rug that I have selected has 20 individual spaces, one for each of our 19 children and an extra for the new student we are awaiting.
