I currently use flexible seating in my class because many of my students have difficulty staying tuned-in, especially during instruction when a lot of focus is required. I have several choices of seating: small plastic rocking chairs, laundry baskets, bean bags and exercise balls. When it is necessary to sit at the desks, students especially gravitate towards the exercise balls. Unfortunately, I currently only have four balls and two of them refuse to stay blown up! It would strengthen my students ability to focus and concentrate if they could all use an exercise ball to help them during instruction.
Your donation to this project would give all the children the ability to keep their focus and attention during crucial instructional moments of the day which will ultimately increase their academic success.
Additionally, many of my students are struggling to learn the correct position for proper handwriting. I currently only have two pencil grips that encourage proper finger placement. I find that when using the grips for a short time so that everyone can share them, the children quickly go back to their old habits. I believe that if each child had their own pencil grip, we would completely erase bad handwriting (pun intended)! In addition, I have been told it increases a child's writing fluency when their hand is in the correct position because their arm does not tire out as quickly.
