Students will have access to touch technology using the iPod touches. They will learn to use the iPods to safely navigate music, social media, send text messages and make phones calls. These are all leisure skills that must be taught explicitly to my students. They will also use augmentative communication apps on these devices to increase their communication with others. The iPad mini will be used with students who have a difficult time with their fine motor skills and are unable to navigate the small size of an iPod.
Students will be taught to use these devices to increase their leisure skills. Imagine being a teenager and unable to participate in the same activities as their peers who are non-disabled. I believe my students will learn to be teenagers and their self esteem will increase dramatically.
