I teach 8th grade English Language Arts in a district where students are not able to compete globally with students across the world because of their lack in foundational skills. Students are expected to learn on their grade level when in reality many students are not on their grade level. Teachers are not equipped with the materials that the student needs to bridge those gaps. Many of the students at my school are not able to read on on their grade level, most of them are not able to write simple sentences let alone write essays. Many students need some one on one time in the classroom with technology, so that the teacher can still cater to the needs of other students yet met struggling students too. All students learning needs SHOULD BE met at their learning levels and style so that all students are able to succeed in the classroom. This can ultimately help them become college and career ready to compete globally.
