By definition, literacy is the ability to read, write, speak and listen in a way that lets us communicate effectively and make sense of the world. Now, imagine you are a child with disabilities, you have difficulty processing information, and little exposure to literacy outside of the classroom.
With these literacy tools, my students will have the opportunity to foster their development for reading and comprehension. Reading is the important cornerstone of literacy. Currently, my students struggle to read on grade level. We will use the sight word books to help build upon students high frequency word recognition. This will help them easily recognize these words when reading more complex texts. With the TIME for Kids non fiction leveled reading kits, we will be able to promote students' literacy learning. We will use these to help build students' background knowledge and allow them to develop critical thinking skills. By using the comprehension foam dice, we will be able to build upon this thinking of texts as well. Additionally, students need a toolbox of strategies to decode texts. Therefore using the blends center, I hope to help students build upon their decoding skills. As a teacher, it is important to me to foster a connection with parents and help them focus on language development at home. I am hopeful that with these tools, parents will be able to work with their children at home reading texts and promoting literacy growth.
