The students in my classroom bring energy and excitement for learning each day. My students thrive off of experiences that are hand on and excite the senses.
My hope with this project is to provide materials for my students that will give them a chance to activate their senses for memorable and meaningful practice during small group and literacy station time.
The materials at our school are often passed from teacher to teacher and some have significant wear and tear. The following materials will be used for independent and partner practice as literacy stations: literacy games, magnetic letters, magnetic words, alphabet CD, sight word stamps, and word beads. These stations will give my students a chance to explore letters, phonics, words, and how they all work together to communicate the English language through reading and writing. Students will have and opportunity to listen to reading, build sentences, write, and read words. These materials will be used all year long with changing activities based on standards being addressed or used for review.
In addition to the materials that will be added to stations, my project also includes some materials for guided reading in the classroom. It is my intention to use the Whisper Phone, highlighter tape, and magnifying glasses to capture students' attention while reading. These tools will help them use multiple senses while reading to reinforce and create meaningful moments that will be carried with my students long after they leave my classroom.
Many of my students do not have access to these materials at home as they come from low income families. They will delight in their own set of materials to take care of and love to learn with! Thank you for considering this Project!!
