I am requesting Chromebooks to create a Research Center within my classroom. My students will use the Research Center during their free time and during social studies lessons, to further explore topics discussed in class, and to develop presentations with Power Point. Research skills are a very effective tool in the attainment of information, in social studies, and have always been a valuable teaching method for me, as my students become more independent and technology savvy. With this technology, I will able to use the Chromebooks during social studies lessons, to reinforce information and instruct them how to develop their own presentations. It will make complex concepts more accessible and enjoyable. Attaching images to lessons will also help the students to stay focused and retain information, which will help my students to enhance their skills in social studies and global issues. Additionally, the Research Center will allow me to teach my kids how to access on-line resources, designed to enhance learning, that they could use at home or at the library. These resources will allow the children to do their own research and offer them extra practice outside of school. For many of my students, their only exposure to technology is at school. Their faces light up when they have the opportunity to independently learn and create their own materials. This enhancement will help my students to develop research skills, which will arm them with the necessary skills for advanced learning.
