I teach 8th grade English language arts at Whitewater Middle School in Charlotte, North Carolina. Our school uses literature to explore social issues, challenge inequalities, further justice, and create positive change. My students are curious, kind, passionate, empathetic, and SMART! As a Title I school serving under-resourced and underserved communities in Charlotte, we know that many of our students do not have access to books and reading material at home that reflect their interests and experiences.
