In middle school students have the opportunity to be in band; however, in elementary school students don't have much access to instruments. having recorders allows students the chance to use the music theory skill they learn in music class. Students are able to improve on sight reading skills and playing in an ensemble. Unfortunately, my school does not have the resources to provide recorders for students. Many of my students would be at a disadvantage with other students in surrounding districts who get this opportunity. I would feel confident sending my students to middle school knowing they are prepared to play in band because they have had the prep work in elementary school.
