Many of my students live in book deserts. They have not had regular exposure to reading for fun, much less reading books that are engaging and have characters and situations that they can relate to. I chose each title with intention, hoping that they will help foster a love of reading.
Surrounding students with quality, diverse literature will not only make them better readers but will create empathy and connection with the world around them. There is no better feeling in the world than handing a student a book that might change their life or at the very least get them hooked on reading.
