Department of Reading Defense Mission: To save 4th grade students from the perils of reluctant reading by bringing them a wider selection of books aimed to peak their curiosity and engage their minds. 1. After careful conferencing it's quite clear our room is filled with readers of all different levels, backgrounds, and interests. Providing each with books that are not only at their level, but also interesting is crucial to accomplishing our mission. 2. Daily students spend 20 - 30 minutes independently reading. By inserting these books into the classroom students will have books at their reading level and that interest them. Reading will start to be seen as fun and entertaining versus boring and a chore. 3. By enlisting the help of DonorsChose we will put the right books in children's hands and a life long love of reading into their hearts.
