I have the most resilient group of young people that I have had the pleasure of teaching in a long time. In January, we returned to our campus after "HH" (Hurricane Harvey) came for destructive visit while most of the students were displaced.
Sadly, students were unable to escape the effects of "HH." All of us were shocked to see that three of the four walls were unpainted sheet rock, and the flooring is concrete. It has been quite an adjustment. At first, we referred to the three walls as the "Great Walls of Depression." The shock has worn off, we have covered the sheet rock with paper; as a result, the seniors have a "wall" that is for their quotes, autographs, hand-prints, and drawings. Another is for literary terms and other notes the students add.
We have realized it is just a room; we have adapted to what we have. These students are grateful for what they have, but together we can get them back to normal.
