Each year in CT, 10 books are nominated to receive the Nutmeg Book Award at each instructional band. This award is voted on by the students across the state. In order for students to vote, they need access to the books so they can be read. Unfortunately, due to state and local budget cuts, the funding no longer exists to purchase these titles on a building or classroom level. These titles are highly engaging for students and are often the first ones selected off the bookshelf.
This project provides 2 copies of each book at both the intermediate and teen levels (a total of 20 titles) for each 6th grade classroom. That's a total of 40 new books for each classroom. By funding this project, you are helping to provide rich and engaging texts for these sixth graders, which will help them grow into stronger readers!
