The Scholastic News magazines will be used in the classroom, as well as at home. The students and I will first read and discuss the material in class. As we explore different topics, students will be given additional time to complete follow-up activities via small groups, group discussions, writing activities, and even small projects. Students will use the materials at home to extend the in-class discussions by reviewing and further discussing the information with their families. I anticipate that the use of the Scholastic News magazines at school and at home will help to build stronger connections within the home, as well as stronger home/school connections. As an added bonus, I anticipate that the use of these magazines will also help develop students socially and academically in multiple domains.
