These materials will enable students to access a variety of texts at their reading levels. Many of my students read below grade level for a variety of reasons, including special ed designation, language barriers and socioeconomic adversity.
Access to books will increase student interest, and as a result, reading levels. We have a school wide focus on literacy, and creating a classroom library will help expand opportunities for students to expand their reading experience. Many students are disinterested in reading because of a lack of choice to relevant material. These materials will have lifelong impact on my students, because literacy is an ever necessary skill.
