I am requesting I-pads for my Kindergarten classroom b/c they are much easier for young students to use and manipulate as opposed to a computer. I find when they have access to laptops, they are always clicking off of the game and getting somewhere else on the internet.
The i-pad would have a folder of apps designed for Kindergarten learning at different points through the year. In the beginning of the year we would focus on letter and number writing and games. Later in the year we could work on word building and beginning reading skills. This would also lend itself well to differentiated instruction. Some students may be ready for harder games faster then others.
