Living in a rural area, my students do not get the opportunities to tie in what they learn in the classroom into real life applications. Our school is located on the edge of a river and with the river being a vital component to our everyday lives. Yet there have been no classroom materials that can be used to see the local wildlife, test water quality, oxygen levels, etc.
With these materials students will get the opportunity to check the water quality of the river in different seasons, be able to cultivate and watch the growth of butterflies and be able to use binoculars to view the local wildlife in which we share our river with.
Since joining my school this year, I have worked in teaching my Earth Science and Biology students about our natural resources and would like to continue that as we move forward throughout the year.
