While my student's come to first grade eager to grow and learn they can easily become discouraged by intensity and rigor of the first grade curriculum. First grade presents challenges to many students as they are all so diverse and unique in their varying learning styles and competences. It can be overwhelming for students to be submerged into content that is far above their current level of understanding and this can be detrimental to students self esteem. Additionally, students can become easily disengaged and unmotivated if they are not being appropriately challenged. My student's have each worked incredibly hard to set personal academic goals for themselves, they work tirelessly to meet these goals and the look in their eyes when they achieve them is one of pure satisfaction and joy.
I am asking you to help me let my students feel this gratifying, motivating feeling of accomplishment daily by providing them with the twenty first century tools needed to track and ultimately reach their individual learning goals and build their self confidence. By helping me provide my students with four iPads, I will be able to use the blended learning station rotation approach in my daily instruction. This means that my students will get a balance of targeted small group instruction pared with adaptive technology applications on the iPad. These iPads play a critical role in helping me differentiate my instruction to met each learners unique needs. The applications I use such as istation, Raz Kids, and Dreambox are adaptive and intuitive to students specific learning needs, additionally they allow me to create assignments to extend or remediate skills taught in targeted small group instruction. Finally, the iPads provide me with incredibly thorough data on my students and their progress towards achieving their learning targets.
