Frisbee golf is a popular recreation activity for young people. It gets students outside and active. I will design a frisbee golf course for my classes to play.
Students will track the displacement of each throw by measuring the distance and directional angle of each throw. The course will begin and end at the same exact spot. Students should be able to prove that, after all of their throws on the frisbee golf course, their displacement is zero since they start and finish at the same place.
I would love for each group of students to have a rangefinder to accurately measure distance of each throw. This will allow for highly accurate data, and better learning outcomes. It is very difficult to measure distance over uneven terrain by "stepping it off" or using an extremely long measuring tape.
I will conduct this activity with my physical science classes, and with my AP physics classes. There are many other applications for the rangefinder in my classes, but this is the project that I am most excited about. I requested 5 range finders so that each lab group, and each individual students will get hands on experience taking measurements during the activity.
