The Van de Graaff generator will allow my student to feel the flow of electricity from one student to another, watch confetti and pie tins leap off of an open hand, laugh as their hair stands up, and many other classic demos. These demos are incredibly engaging and inspire awe and inquiry in even the most reluctant learners. Based on their observations, students will be asked to model an make predictions based on their now enhanced understanding of how electrons move and interact. These understandings are fundamental to things like the human nervous system, lightning, electrical circuits, attraction repulsion phenomena, and a host of chemistry concepts. These are the sorts of things that will launch careers like electrical engineers, neurologists, doctors, and countless other critical and high paying jobs.
