As a 6th Grade Language Arts teacher, teaching empathy is immensely important to me. Understanding emotional experiences deepens one's ability to relate to and learn from literature.
Many of my middle school students struggle to identify the emotions they are feeling, and their struggles create tension in the classroom. This tension distracts my students from learning. Why not take something that already exists and make it work for you? That was my thinking in introducing the book Wonder to my students. While I already have a teacher copy that I purchased on my own, I would love if my students could follow along as I read this beautiful, funny, and raw novel to them this year.
Please help to make my classroom Wonder-full. Your generosity would mean the world to my kids.
