My students love to climb, tumble and roll. Every year they are incredibly excited when we let down the cargo net and the rope to do our climbing and gymnastics unit. I've done a miniature obstacle course in the past utilizing climbing and tumbling skills, and the kids leave class sweaty and excited. We don't have a climbing wall at my school, so I'm looking for other cool ways to sneak in activities for kids to develop their upper body strength. With kids being so sedentary these days, fitness and strength suffer greatly.
Recently I've attended a physical education conference and was able to see how one teacher in my district does a Parkour/Ninja Warrior unit. His ideas have inspired me to reach out to give my students a fresh new outlook on some of our old teams. With my students having great self-control with their behavior and respect for our physical education classroom, this addition to our gym would be something we could use often.
